IEB 2018 matrics achieve 98.9% pass rate

The Independent Examination Board (IEB) matric class of 2018 achieved a pass rate of 98.9%, according to a report by the Mail and Guardian.

This is a 0.2% increase from 2017.

The IEB exams are often used by private schools to test their pupils, and are accredited by Umalusi – which also accredits the Department of Education’s national senior certificate exams.

12,372 pupils wrote the IEB exams in 2018, up from 12,130 in 2017, and achieved the following results:

  • 90.65% eligible to study for a university degree.
  • 7.33% eligible to study for a diploma.
  • 0.95% eligible to study at a higher certificate level.

Matric results

For public schools, the 2018 matric results will be announced by the Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, on 3 January 2019.
